His name means "mighty". He is the son of Thor and the giantess
Jarnsaxa, and the brother of Modi.
After his duel with
Hrungnir, the strongest of the frost giants, Thor fell wounded to the ground because fragments of whetstone had lodged in his head. He was also unable to move because one of Hrungnir's lifeless legs held him pinned to the ground. Even worse, Thor wet himself when he noticed the clay giant Mist Calf coming towards him. Insult was added to injury when Magni, at only three years of age, was able to free his father. "It is a pity I didn't come sooner," Magni commented. "If I had met this giant earlier he would have fallen to my bare fists." Although Odin was rather offended by the young one's intervention, Thor was grateful and gave him Hrungnir's horse Golden Mane.
After Ragnarok, Magni and his brother Modi will inherit their father's magic hammer
