Ran The wife of Aegir, she was the sea goddess of storms. She collects drowned people in her golden net and brings them to her husband's hall. Warriors were terrified of drowning for it meant they could not go to Valhalla and fight with Odin as Einherjar, but it was certainly preferable to dying of sickness and going to Hel's cold and silent realm.
