Tonight I make a new member in the Legion of Thunder. This man also received Squirehood, and this man will one day receive Godhood
The Court calls Lord Hodr
Lord Hodr steps forward with care and is recognized by the court.
In case you are all wondering, Lord Hodr cannot see.
Notice the chain as it is given to Lord Hodr. It is linked together and has no end. Nor shall there be an end to his service to Thor and to the Legion of Thunder.
The chain is bestowed upon Lord Hodr
The belt. Red, to symbolize the blood that he is willing to shed for his knight.
Lord Hodr is belted.
Place your hands upon my hammer, where you swear
Lord Hodr swears his oath
It has come to my attention, that Hodr has chosen to be accoladed, so I will give it to him.
The court calls forth the Legion of Thunder
The Legion enters the court
This is a great honor. May this be the first of many blows that you will receive unanswered.
Thor administers the collee, a light blow to Lord Hodr's cheek
You are now my squire.
He raises Lord Hodr and embraces him. The newest squire is applauded by the crowd.
The Legion and Lord Hodr retire.
Odin steps forward with the Fenirs-wolf, chained.
Tonight is a very special night indeed for the squire. For a god is born tonight. As we begin to unchain Fenris, to let him ascend to his proper place in Asgard, Thor, my son, will read a little bit about being a god, and then we will begin the ceremony.
Before reading this, I would first like to thank everyone for their good patience with Fenris. Realize that the dog, for those who come here a lot to the palace; the dog is very special to us. We found it appropriate to elevate him to this status. So here is what I read to Heimdall, the words about gods:
We of Asgard are eternally different, and yet, eternally the same.
Our powers are unchanging, yet we assume so many forms, that a man could not name them all in a lifetime.
We exist from ther countless stars in the sky, in every wave of the sea, in everything above or below the earth; Water and Flame, Soil and Air, all hold us in them.
In the beginning, we created the cosmos out of chaos. Every race and language tells our story in their own ways. When there was nothing we came out of nowhere and separated chaos into innumerable elements. We set the stars on their courses, and placed limits on the seas.
We invented the sun, and lit the lamp of the moon .
At first, there was only the Sky-Father and Earth-Mother. Every race gives them their own names, but as cosmic beings they were always the same. They created the entire family of gods, and when they had built their heavens they had to battle against the forces of evil, which may also have been the children of the Great Parents. They waged such wars throughout every quarter of the world we know.
You all possess all the qualities which we know as gods: courage, lust, love, avarice, despair, nobility, cowardice, and all the rest. You need not wonder why your natures are as tangled as a thorn bush; mingled flowers and thorns. You inherited them from we innumerable gods, who still meddle with your destiny. We live within the heart of a diamond, and in the lightest breeze which touches your cheek.
But most of all we live within the hearts of men. If you seek us, you will find us there. But do not open the doors too wide, for you may release Odin the Wise.
Perhaps you will find it hard to believe in us, if so, then think about the words of one of your own wise men, who said, that if you bet on the gods, and they don't exist, you lose nothing. But if you bet against them, and they do exist, you lose everything.
The gods make ready the altar, and Fenris is brought before it
May I please have the water
It is handed to him, and he holds it up
Thor: to Fenris
Water from the Rhine. Drink of this, and become One with the Earth.
Thor lifts the next vial from the altar.
This is Blood of Odin. Drink of this, and receive the gift of Wisdom.
Thor produces a Golden Apple.
The Apple, eat of this, and receive the gift of immortality.
Fenris does his best to eat the apple.
I think it is fair to assume that the essence of the apple has passed through to him!
The crowd laughs appreciatively
As you know, Fenris was bound with a golden chain. We had released this chain prior to walking him out here. Know that that is the golden chain from which the first set of knights chains will come from, for he is no longer to be chained, he is to rise and become one with the rest of the gods.
The gods greet their newest fully-awakened brother
Three Vivats for Fenris!
The crowd cheers Fenris.
Another piece of Asgard business, there is one among you who has been sturdy from the beginning. He has ridden the waves of political disaster, and has suffered the slings of heavy metal (you know what I mean). Tonight he gets his due.
The court calls forth his Highness, Prince Fafnir
Prince Fafnir enters and is recognized by the court.
Fafnir, you have been part of Uberheim from nearly the beginning, and your sturdiness has been there for all to see. Tonight you join the realms of the eternal, and after the ceremony your eternal brothers will join you in congratulations. We begin.
We begin this ceremony much as we began the Immortality ceremony.
Fafnir kneels before the altar
Drink of the water of the Rhine and become One with the Earth.
He presents the water to Prince Sir Fafnir, who drinks.
Drink of the blood of Odin, and receive the gift of Wisdom
Fafnir drinks deep of the blood.
For the ceremony of Immortality, we give the Apple, which gives the gift of life. For the Eternals, we use Ambrosia, the food of the gods, eaten only by the gods and those that reach immortality in the realm. Here is a bit of documentation on Ambrosia, and what scholars have considered Ambrosia to be.
Drink and food of the gods. The Greek word Abrodas means "not mortal", and no mortal has ever seen or tasted the food of the gods. The gods to not, however, restrict themselves to a diet of nectar and ambrosia, many of them to relish mortal food. It is possible that Ambrosia is a substance resembling that of cheesecake, but infinitely more delectable. Probably the gods eat Ambrosia to renew their strength.
So for the purpose of our ceremony, Ambrosia is to be considered cheesecake, and cheesecake Ambrosia, and that is what we will feed Fafnir this evening.
He offers the Ambrosia to Prince Sir Fafnir
Eat of this, Ambrosia, the food of the gods.
The prince eats the sacred food.
Odin: to Fafnir
Rise, and be recognized by Uberheim as the newest eternal.
He stands, and the crowd lauds Prince Sir Fafnir, Eternal of Uberheim
Will all those that are Eternals, or were Immortals, not due to god status, but due to award, please come into court.
They come forward and assemble before the gods
None of you new people have met them for they have been away for a long time, but two of my favorites have returned this evening and I wish to greet them. Brunhilde, Queen of the Valkyries, and Frey, welcome home!
Odin embraces Brunnhilde and Frey
My business is done. I now turn this court over to Siegfried, King of Uberheim.
King Siegfried steps forward
Frey, Brunnhilde. It has been a long quest, I have not seen you in many moons. You have been away. I ask you to tell me of your quest, and if you have found what I sent you to look for.
My king, we have traveled through many different lands, and met many, many interesting people. Through our travels, we encountered a great fire-dragon, which we slew in your name. We present you with the dragon's blood as a gift, and a token of our victory over the great beast. Mind you, not a quaffing drink, but a sipping drink, for the blood of the dragon is mighty.
The king drinks and is overset by the power of the elixir, to the vast amusement of the court
By the Gods of Inebriation! A mighty dragon's blood! A sip indeed, I will take your advice next time! I welcome you both back to the kingdom. I am glad to see you back, and I will revel heartily with you, at some point at which I am able to swallow.
The crowd laughs
I'm working on it... Rise and be recognized, returning from the quest, the God Frey and the Goddess Brunnhilde, Queen of the Valkyries.
The crowd cheers Vivat for Frey and Brunnhilde.
King Siefried: (still reeling from the dragon's blood!)
I can't say you didn't warn me!
To the crowd: By the way, it's Everclear. And I guzzled it.
That explains it!
The court calls forward, Viscount Sir Rudiger.
Sir Rudiger enters and is recognized by the court
It has come to my attention that you have been seeking the crown of your title. The crown is in fact, prepared, at this time, so you will be receiveing that crown tonight.
The court call forward Lady Rossweise.
The lady enters and is recognized
Sir Rudiger, you have earned this crown. Your many sturdy deeds, your dedication to the spirit of this great kingdom, through your blood, and through your honor.
He crowns Rudiger
Rise and be recognized as PRINCE SIR RUDIGER OF MIDGARD!!
And there was much rejoicing
Be there any more business before the court?
Very well, then this shall close the Yule court of Uberheim.
The crowd cheers for Uberheim
