The Ascension of Baldr
At Asgard Frolic, Ulic's Hall, April 24, 1999
Lord Baldr's life was taken from him as it had been given by the Allfather and his spirit was confined to a place of seclusion where he might dwell upon the momentous step he was about to take. While Lord Baldr pondered the nature of his being, the King and Queen, Gods, GITs, and Eternals paid him visits to help him along his way. After this time of Vigil had passed, his form was brought forth to kneel before the Court of Odin.
Odin addressed the assemebled crowd and bade them listen to the traditional text of Ascension, read by the Goddess Saga. Then Lord Bragi stepped forward to read a
poem composed in honor of Baldr.
Then the sacred ceremony of Ascension began. Lord Baldr was given to drink of the Mead of the Stream of Memory, to have knowledge of the Cosmos, of the Water of the Rhine to become One with the Earth, of the Milk of Audhumla, and then finally the Blood of Odin, to gain Wisdom. After he had quaffed these elixirs, Odin then offered Lord Baldr the Golden Apple of Immortality. The final step was completed when Saga passed on Mjollnir of Uberheim, the sacred hammer pendant. She cited the qualities that made the necklace special; it uniqueness, as Uberheim is unique, its sturdiness, as he must be as a God, its weight, as the weight of his duties and service, and finally, the honor that comes with Mjollnir, that Lord Baldr was receiving it because of his special place in the Kingdom as a God.
Lord Baldr was then bade to rise and be recognized as Baldr, God of Chivalry and was greeted by his siblings and compatriots.
